It tolerates low light and keeps a settled, slow-growing shape once attached to wood or rock rather than planted into substrate.

Anubias barteri var. nana 'Kirin' is a slow-growing aquarium plant with leaves that curl and ripple at the edges far more than typical Anubias nana, a texture said to be inspired by Asian dragon artwork. It suits aquascapers after a foreground plant for shaded or low-light areas of the tank. The gradual growth rate helps keep a planted layout settled, since it won't quickly change shape or need reshaping.

What you get is a pack of five pots, with the plants ready to be removed from their growing medium and fixed onto hardscape. This plant should be attached to a piece of wood or rock rather than planted into substrate, and wood or rock isn't included, so have a suitable surface ready before it arrives.

What sets 'Kirin' apart from other Anubias cultivars is the strength of its leaf waviness: ovate, dark green leaves measuring 3 to 4cm that curl noticeably more than smoother-leaved types. Keep the rhizome uncovered once it's attached, since burying it can lead to rot and affect the plant's survival.

Specification

Detail

Origin

Cultivar

Difficulty

Easy

Aquarium placement

Foreground

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0922/0610/4949/files/anubias-barteri-var-nana-kirin-potted.jpg?v=1792394731
