It suits aquarists setting up softwater, slightly acidic planted tanks who want a feathery, almost see-through foliage plant for the midground or background. Mature growth reaches 15-40 cm tall and wide, giving a soft outline rather than a dense clump of leaves.

The rhizome runs along the surface of the mount rather than rooting into substrate, which is simply how this fern grows. If you ever reposition it onto another root or stone, keep the rhizome exposed: burying it will cause it to rot.

Propagation is straightforward. Split the horizontal rhizome into sections, and each piece can be reattached and grown on separately.

Adding CO2 to the tank increases growth considerably, though the fern will still grow without it. What you get is one Bolbitis heudelotii fern, supplied in the Standard size, already fixed to its wood mount and ready to position in the aquarium.

Specification

Detail

Difficulty

Medium

Mounted on

Wood

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0922/0610/4949/files/bolbitis-heudelotii-fern-mounted-on-wood-standard.jpg?v=1792402943
