cardamine-lyrata-potted
Cardamine lyrata (Potted)

Cardamine lyrata brings a trailing, leafy look to the back of the aquarium, giving planted tanks more depth and movement as the stems spread. Supplied as a pack of five pots, it's straightforward enough for aquarists building up a planted set-up, and it also works in outdoor garden ponds over summer.

Cardamine lyrata is a stem plant that grows as a marsh species in Japan in the wild, yet adapts fully to life underwater in the aquarium, producing trailing stems and aerial roots that often form directly on the plant itself. That trailing habit is what sets it apart from stiffer-growing background plants: the stems spread and drape rather than standing upright.

Planted at the back of the tank, it helps fill out that area with texture rather than a flat wall of leaves, and it reads best when several stems are grouped together rather than planted singly. It also tolerates outdoor garden ponds during the summer months, so it isn't restricted to indoor aquariums only.

Temperature matters for how it looks: keep the water at or below 28 degrees C, since above that point the leaves shrink and the stems grow noticeably leggier. Staying under that threshold keeps the foliage fuller and the growth more compact.

What you get: a pack of five pots of Cardamine lyrata, ready to go straight into substrate or planted as part of a background grouping.

Specification

Detail

Origin

Asia

Difficulty

Easy

Aquarium placement

Background
