cotula-coronopifolia-marginal-pond-plant
Cotula coronopifolia Marginal Pond Plant

A low, creeping marginal plant that spreads along pond edges and boggy ground, covered in small yellow button flowers through the warmer months. It gives colour to the margin at a shallow planting depth and is supplied already growing in a basket or pot, depending on the size you choose.

Cotula coronopifolia is a creeping marginal plant that forms a low mat of foliage covered in small, bright yellow, button-shaped flowers. It suits pond margins and boggy ground, where the grower's own guidance says it will self-seed once established, and it offers colour to the water's edge across the growing season.

It grows best in full sun to part shade and is suited to the shallower margin of the pond rather than deep water, which makes it an easy addition alongside other marginals.

Several pot and pack options are available, ranging from young plants in 9cm pots up to a single plant in a 3 litre basket, so you can match the quantity and size to the stretch of margin you're planting. The two 1 litre options differ only in whether you receive one plant or three.

As an annual, it relies on conditions being right for it to carry on from seed. The grower notes it will self-seed where fallen seeds can settle in boggy ground, though this depends on how and where it's planted rather than being something the plant does on its own in every setting.

Specification

Detail

Sun/Shade

Full sun to part shade

Flowers

May to October

Colour

Yellow

Growth rate

Slow

Care notes

The grower notes that, as an annual, this plant will self-seed when grown in boggy ground where the seeds can settle.

What's included

1 litre single: one plant in a 1 litre basket. 1 litre pack of 3: three plants, each in its own 1 litre basket. 3 litre single: one plant in a 3 litre basket. 9cm pot pack of 3: three plants supplied in 9cm pots.

Height

15-20 cm

Planting depth

0-10 cm

Care instructions

This annual will self seed if planted in boggy ground where the seeds can settle.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0922/0610/4949/files/cotula-coronopifolia-marginal-pond-plant.jpg?v=1793173615
