hygrophila-lancea-araguaia
Hygrophila lancea 'Araguaia'

A compact stem plant for the midground of a planted aquarium that gives reddish-brown to purple colouring, deepening as growth conditions improve. Pinching the tips keeps it fuller and bushier instead of letting it grow as one leggy stem. Supplied in 1-2-Grow! format.

This is a Hygrophila lancea stem plant, sold under the trade name 'Araguaia' after a Brazilian river system, though the available evidence points to Japan and Hong Kong as its real origin rather than South America. It suits the midground of a planted aquarium and gives reddish-brown to purple colouring that deepens under good growing conditions.

The stems carry compact, tightly packed leaves and branch readily on their own. Pinch back the growing tips regularly and you get a denser, bushier shape rather than a tall single stem; left to grow naturally, expect a height of 10-20 cm and a width of 6-15 cm.

What you get: a pack of three cups of Hygrophila lancea 'Araguaia' in 1-2-Grow! format. What sets it apart is the colour, a reddish-brown through to purple tone that is unusual among midground stem plants, combined with a growth pace typical for a Hygrophila and a care level suited to aquarists who already have some planted-tank experience.

Specification

Detail

Origin

Asia

Difficulty

Medium

Aquarium placement

Midground

AquaticsHub
1-2-Grow!
