iris-pseudacorus-marginal-pond-plant
Iris pseudacorus Marginal Pond Plant

Iris pseudacorus is the only native aquatic iris, the plant whose flower is linked to the Fleur-de-lys emblem long associated with French royalty. It suits pond margins, bog gardens and boggy soil, where it helps establish cover quickly and gives pond edges colour through its flowering season. Choose a 1 litre or 3 litre basket-grown plant for an established specimen, or a pack of three 9cm pots for planting in groups.

Iris pseudacorus is the only native aquatic iris, and the plant behind the Fleur-de-lys, the emblem long linked to French royalty. Planted at a pond margin or in boggy soil, it fills out quickly and brings colour to the water's edge each flowering season.

It suits anyone planting up a pond margin, bog garden or boggy border who wants a true native marginal rather than a non-native alternative. Because it can grow vigorously once settled, it's worth giving it room to spread, or keeping it contained within its basket if space is limited.

What you get depends on the size ordered. The 1 litre and 3 litre options each provide one plant already growing in its own mesh aquatic basket, ready to go straight onto a pond shelf. The 9cm pot option provides a pack of three plants, each in its own small pot, useful for planting in groups across a margin or bog garden bed.

Its native status and taller growth habit set it apart from many other marginals, making it a good choice for the back of a planting scheme or a deeper shelf, provided it's kept within its recommended planting depth.

Specification

Detail

Sun/Shade

Full sun to part shade

Flowers

Jun & Jul

Colour

Yellow

Growth rate

Fast

Care instructions

After foliage has died back in Autumn cut back to just above the water surface.
