juncus-inflexus-native-marginal-pond-rush
Juncus inflexus - Native Marginal Pond Rush

Juncus inflexus suits pond margins, bog gardens and wildlife or naturalistic planting schemes. Its evergreen habit keeps structure and colour at the water's edge through the colder months. It's available as a single plant in a 1 litre or 3 litre basket, or as a pack of three young plants in 9cm pots for grouping together.

Juncus inflexus is a native UK rush with slender blue/grey leaves, grown as a marginal plant for pond edges, bog gardens and wildlife-friendly planting schemes. Its evergreen habit helps keep upright structure and colour at the pond margin through the colder months. That makes it a useful plant for filling out a mixed marginal border all year round.

You'll receive one plant already potted in a mesh aquatic basket if you choose the 1 litre or 3 litre size, ready to go straight onto the pond shelf. Choose the 9cm pot option and you'll get three young plants, each in its own 9cm pot, which suits building up a fuller group planting.

The 9cm pot plants aren't supplied in a mesh basket, so you'll need to pot them into one before placing them in the pond. The 1 litre and 3 litre sizes already come in their basket and don't need repotting, though a larger basket can give the 1 litre plants more room to grow.

What marks this plant out within marginal planting is its slender blue/grey foliage combined with its native, UK-origin status, making it a straightforward fit for wildlife and naturalistic pond schemes. It keeps a manageable scale alongside other marginals, needing little beyond an early spring trim to refresh growth.

Established plants need little ongoing attention; the sizing guidance below covers planting depth for each basket size while plants settle in.

Specification

Detail

Sun/Shade

Full sun to part shade

Flowers

June to August

Colour

Brown

Growth rate

Medium

Care instructions

Evergreen.
