It gives you flexibility across a wider range of tank temperatures than many other mosses, since it tolerates both warm and cool water. Left to grow across rocks and driftwood, it also provides useful cover for shrimp and fry during breeding, though it grows quickly and will need trimming back.

Leptodictyum riparium, commonly known as stringy moss, is a slender, upright aquarium moss that gives you more flexibility with tank temperature than many other mosses, since it tolerates both warm and cool water equally well.

It's an undemanding, low-maintenance plant, which makes it a solid choice for beginners who want a distinctive, textured green feature in the tank. The colour is an intense, slightly transparent green that stands out against hardscape.

As it grows, it attaches itself naturally to rocks and driftwood rather than needing to be rooted in substrate. Growth is vigorous and rapid, so plan on trimming it back regularly to keep it looking tidy.

That fast growth is also why it's a popular choice for nano aquariums, where it's often used to provide cover for breeding fish and shrimp fry. What you get is a pack of three cups of the moss in the 1-2-Grow! format, which is the only option available on this listing.

Specification

Detail

Origin

Cosmopolitan

Difficulty

Easy

Aquarium placement

On wood or rock

AquaticsHub
1-2-Grow!
