It suits open aquariums particularly well, and also does well in traditional covered tanks.

Its fine, trailing roots protect gouramies and other surface-dwelling fish by giving them a sheltered spot near the surface, since these fish like to shelter among the roots of floating plants. This makes it useful in tanks stocked with that kind of fish, not just as a floating feature on its own.

Given enough nutrients and strong light, new leaves push up above the water surface. It's worth thinning these out from time to time, as a thick covering can shade the plants growing underneath.

When nutrient levels in the water fall, growth slows noticeably, so the plant also works as a simple indicator of how well-fed the tank currently is. What you get is a pack of three cups of young plants grown through tissue culture, ready to separate and float directly on the surface. What sets it apart is that combination: quick floating growth, roots that double as shelter for surface fish, and a growth rate that tells you something about your water's nutrient levels.

Specification

Detail

Origin

South America

Difficulty

Easy

Format notes

1-2-Grow!: aquarium plant grown from tissue culture, supplied in a closed cup

Aquarium placement

Fast-growing and floating

AquaticsHub
1-2-Grow!
