Supplied as a pack of five pots, it suits beginner aquarists building up a planted tank affordably by growing it in groups.

Limnophila sessiliflora is a stem plant from South-East Asia, kept as an alternative to Cabomba for aquarists who don't want to rely on intense lighting. It helps you build a fuller, greener aquascape in tanks lit at a moderate level, without needing extra equipment.

Stems grow quickly, reaching up to 40cm tall and 3-4cm wide, so a single potted plant soon fills out. Planted in groups it creates the fullest effect, and in good growing conditions it sends out runners that spread across the substrate on their own.

Light levels affect how it looks: in dimmer tanks the stems can turn leggy, though the manufacturer states that adding CO2 to the water helps counteract this to some extent. A brighter spot or a CO2 setup is worth considering if a denser, more compact habit matters to you.

What you get: a pack of five pots of Limnophila sessiliflora, ready to split into individual stems and plant as you like.

What sets it apart from Cabomba is its lower light requirement alongside a similar feathery look, plus its own runner-based spreading habit once established. The plant was previously sold and known under the name Ambulia, so you may see it listed that way elsewhere.

Specification

Detail

Origin

Asia

Difficulty

Easy

Aquarium placement

Fast-growing and floating

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0922/0610/4949/files/limnophila-sessiliflora-potted-aquarium-plant.jpg?v=1792402197
