Its tight, upright growth from top to bottom helps fill tank space without needing large numbers of plants, and its undemanding nature makes it a reasonable choice if you're new to planted tanks. Trimming off any shoots that revert to plain green keeps the marbled look consistent.

Lindernia rotundifolia 'Variegated' is a stem plant native to sandy banks along streams in Asia, grown here for its marbled green-and-cream leaves rather than the solid green of the standard species. That mottled colouring is what sets this variant apart from a plain Lindernia rotundifolia. It suits planting out as a background row or as a single feature plant in the mid-ground, since it grows tightly packed from top to bottom rather than sprawling. This habit helps create a full, layered look in the tank without needing to plant it in large numbers. It asks little in terms of maintenance, which makes it a sound pick if you're putting together your first planted aquarium, and it forms compact, bushy groups on its own. What you get: a pack of five pots of Lindernia rotundifolia 'Variegated', supplied ready to go into substrate. New shoots occasionally grow back fully green instead of marbled; trimming these off at the base keeps the variegated pattern consistent as the plant fills in, and some pruning is likely as it forms denser groups over time.

Specification

Detail

Origin

Asia

Difficulty

Easy

Aquarium placement

Background

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0922/0610/4949/files/lindernia-rotundifolia-variegated-potted.jpg?v=1792400786
