lychnis-flos-cuculi-white-robin-marginal-pond-plant
Lychnis flos-cuculi 'White Robin' Marginal Pond Plant

A white-flowered marginal plant suited to pond margins and shallow water, growing well in sunny or lightly shaded spots. It offers tall summer colour at the pond edge and needs very little upkeep once settled in. You get either a single ready-potted plant (1 litre or 3 litre basket) or three young plants in 9cm pots, with the white blooms setting this variety apart from other colour forms of Lychnis flos-cuculi.

Lychnis flos-cuculi 'White Robin' is a white-flowered form of the marginal pond plant Lychnis flos-cuculi, grown for the pond edge and boggy margin rather than open water. Its white flowers are the main point of difference from other colour forms of the species, giving the pond margin a lighter, brighter look through the flowering season.

Growth is slow and steady, so the plant holds its shape well and keeps care to a minimum. Once the foliage dies back in autumn, trimming it back just above the water surface is the main job needed to keep it tidy. Its upright habit gives useful height and structure along the margin.

What you receive depends on the size you choose. The 1 litre and 3 litre options each supply one plant already potted into its own mesh aquatic basket, ready to place straight into the pond without repotting. The 9cm pot option is sold as a pack of three young plants, each in its own 9cm pot, which need potting into a mesh aquatic basket before planting.

Specification

Detail

Sun/Shade

Full sun to part shade

Flowers

May to Aug

Colour

White

Growth rate

Slow

Care instructions

Little maintenance is required.
