marsilea-quadrifolia-pond-marginal-plant
Marsilea quadrifolia Pond Marginal Plant

Marsilea quadrifolia gives pond margins a dense, low-growing cover of clover-shaped leaves that float flat on the water's surface. It suits shallow planting pockets around the pond edge rather than open water, and spreads quickly once settled in. You get either a single plant in a 1 litre basket or three smaller potted plants supplied together, depending on which option you choose.

Marsilea quadrifolia is a marginal pond plant grown for its four-lobed, clover-shaped leaves, which float flat at the surface of the water rather than standing upright. It gives pond margins a low, spreading cover and suits shallow planting pockets around the edge of the pond.

Once established, it grows quickly, helping it fill out across the surface within a season. It tolerates a broad range of light levels and planting depths, so it adapts to different spots around the margin rather than needing one precise position.

You get either a single plant supplied in a 1 litre mesh aquatic basket, ready to position with minimal handling, or three plants supplied together, each in its own 9cm pot, if you want to cover more ground. The 9cm pot plants aren't supplied in a mesh basket, so you'll need to pot them yourself if that's how you plan to grow them.

Ongoing care is minimal: trim back any excess growth once it spreads further than you'd like.

Specification

Detail

Sun/Shade

Full sun to part shade

Flowers

None

Colour

Green

Growth rate

Fast

Care instructions

Remove excess growth if necessary.

Native

No

Height

8-15 cm

Planting depth

0-25 cm

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0922/0610/4949/files/marsilea-quadrifolia-pond-marginal-plant.jpg?v=1791808497
