Choose a single 1 litre plant or a pack of three 9cm pot plants, depending on how much of the margin you want to cover.

Mentha pulegium is a creeping marginal plant from the mint family, forming a low mat of small, scented leaves rather than growing upright like many pond-edge plants. It keeps the shallow margin filled with spreading foliage, staying short enough to avoid overshadowing taller marginals planted nearby. As a native UK species, it suits naturalistic or wildlife-leaning planting schemes around the pond edge. You get either a single plant supplied in a 1 litre mesh aquatic basket, or three plants each supplied in their own 9cm pot, depending on which option you choose. If you pick the pack of three, bear in mind the pots don't come with a mesh basket, though potting into one is part of the recommended planting method. What sets this plant apart from many other marginals is its creeping, ground-covering habit combined with the mint-family scent that comes through when the foliage is handled or trimmed.

Specification

Detail

Colour

Purple

Height

5-30 cm

Native

Native

Flowers

Jul to Oct

Sun/Shade

Full sun to part shade

Growth rate

Medium

Planting depth

0-5 cm

What's included

1 litre: one plant in a 1 litre mesh aquatic basket; 9cm pot, pack of 3: three plants each in a 9cm pot.

Care instructions

This plant can be trimmed as required at any time during the growing season.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0922/0610/4949/files/mentha-pulegium-marginal-pond-plant.jpg?v=1791727505
