microsorum-pteropus-windel-v
Microsorum pteropus 'Windeløv'

Microsorum pteropus 'Windeløv' is a finely branched fern suited to attaching on rock or driftwood in the middle layers of a planted tank. It gives newcomers a forgiving plant to start with, while its distinctive forked leaf tips appeal to more experienced keepers after a different look from standard java fern. The source notes it is generally left alone by herbivorous fish, which helps protect your planting layout over time.

Microsorum pteropus 'Windeløv' is a bred form of java fern, selected for finely divided, forking leaf tips that look noticeably different from the plain, undivided fronds of standard java fern. This branching shape is specific to this patented variety, giving your tank a texture ordinary java fern cannot offer.

It suits beginners because it tolerates a wide range of handling and conditions without much fuss, and it still appeals to more experienced growers after an unusual leaf form. Its tough leaves also mean it is generally left alone by herbivorous fish, helping keep your planting intact rather than grazed down.

Fully grown, it reaches 15-20 cm tall and wide, which makes it a good fit for the middle layers of the tank rather than the foreground or very back.

You get the plant supplied either as a pack of five pots ready to attach to hardscape, or as a pack of three 1-2-Grow! tissue-culture cups, depending on which format you order.

It establishes best when tied or glued to a rock or piece of bogwood rather than buried in the substrate. If you do plant it in the substrate, leave the horizontal rhizome uncovered, since covering it is not recommended.

Specification

Detail

Origin

Cultivar

Difficulty

Easy

Aquarium placement

Midground

1-2-Grow!
