mimulus-cupreus-red-emperor-marginal-pond-plant
Mimulus cupreus 'Red Emperor' Marginal Pond Plant

This marginal plant produces bright red, trumpet-shaped flowers through the summer months, giving pond edges a long run of colour in a sunny spot. Its growth habit is a little more restrained than Mimulus guttatus, so it keeps its shape well in smaller basket positions. It's available as a single plant in a 1 litre or 3 litre basket, or as a pack of three young plants in 9cm pots.

Mimulus cupreus 'Red Emperor' is a marginal pond plant known for its bright red, trumpet-shaped flowers and a growth habit that's a little more compact than the related Mimulus guttatus. Oval, toothed leaves sit alongside the flowers, adding texture to the planting even between flushes of bloom.

Positioned where it gets plenty of direct sunlight, it offers a long stretch of colour at the pond edge through the warmer months and suits margins or baskets where a sprawling plant would be unwelcome.

Single plants are supplied in a 1 litre or 3 litre mesh aquatic basket, ready to place in the pond without repotting. The pack of three comes as plants in 9cm pots instead; these will need potting into a mesh basket before planting out, and that basket isn't included, so bear that in mind if you're planting into a basket system rather than straight into substrate or gravel.

Specification

Detail

Colour

Red

Height

20-40 cm

Flowers

Jun to Aug

Sun/Shade

Full sun

Growth rate

Medium

Planting depth

0-10 cm

What's included

1 litre: one plant in a 1 litre mesh aquatic basket; 3 litre: one plant in a 3 litre mesh aquatic basket; 9cm pot, pack of 3: three plants each in a 9cm pot.

Care instructions

This plant can be trimmed as required at any time during the growing season.
