mimulus-ringens-marginal-pond-plant
Mimulus ringens Marginal Pond Plant

A marginal plant for pond edges, Mimulus ringens grows upright stems that help add height and structure to margin planting over summer. It establishes readily once potted at the right depth, giving a naturalistic look to the water's edge. Available as a single 1 litre basket-ready plant or a pack of three 9cm pot plants for filling a larger area more affordably.

Mimulus ringens is a marginal pond plant with longer, narrower leaves than other Mimulus varieties, giving it a more upright, grass-like profile at the water's edge. Native to eastern and central North America, it's suited to planting directly into pond margins. Once established, it helps fill out planting at the pond edge with tall, flowering stems through summer.

You can buy it as a single plant already in a 1 litre mesh aquatic basket, ready to go straight into the water, or as a pack of three young plants, each supplied in a 9cm pot, for filling a larger area more economically.

Growth is steady rather than fast, and little ongoing care is needed beyond a tidy-up. Letting the foliage die back naturally over autumn and winter helps the plant build strong buds for the following season.

Specification

Detail

Colour

Pink

Height

40-60 cm

Flowers

Jul & Aug

Sun/Shade

Full sun

Growth rate

Medium

Planting depth

0-15 cm

What's included

1 litre: one plant in a 1 litre mesh aquatic basket; 9cm pot, pack of 3: three plants each in a 9cm pot.

Care instructions

Little maintenance is required.
