It's grown in full sun and still water, making it an easy choice if you're building up a modest water garden rather than a large one. You receive one plant, already potted in its own mesh aquatic basket, in the litre size you choose.

Nymphaea Xiafei is a free-flowering water lily bred in China and introduced in the early 2000s, grown for its petite red blooms edged with scarlet over green foliage. It helps bring colour to a pond across most of the summer, flowering from June to September once settled into still water and full sun. The plant arrives already potted in a mesh aquatic basket, ready to lower into position rather than needing you to source your own container. Where it's supplied matters for how you plant it: the 1 litre option comes in a 1 litre basket and will generally need potting on into a 3 litre or larger basket as the plant establishes, while the 2 litre option arrives in a 2 litre basket sized for planting straight in. Both settle at a planting depth of 15 to 40cm and spread 40 to 65cm once established, so there's room to plan where it sits alongside other marginals or lilies.

Specification

Detail

Sun/Shade

Full sun

Flowers

Jun to Sep

Colour

Red

Growth rate

Small

Planting depth

15-40 cm

Spread

40-65 cm
