scirpus-cernuus-marginal-pond-plant
Scirpus cernuus Marginal Pond Plant

Scirpus cernuus is an evergreen marginal plant suited to the shallow margins or planting shelf of a garden pond. It keeps its glossy, thread-like foliage all year round and helps add continuous texture to pondside planting. Choose a single plant already potted in a mesh basket (1 litre or 3 litre) ready to place straight into the pond, or a pack of three smaller 9cm pot plants to pot up and establish yourself.

Scirpus cernuus is an evergreen marginal plant with slender, thread-like leaves that carry small white flower spikes along their tips, so it keeps its colour and shape in the pond margin throughout the year.

It suits the shallow margins or planting shelf of a garden pond, where it provides low, grassy texture close to the water's edge. Its slow growth habit helps keep maintenance down, and established plants need only a single trim in early spring to bring on fresh growth.

What you get depends on the size you choose. The 1 litre and 3 litre options each supply one plant already potted into a matching mesh aquatic basket, so it can go straight into the pond. The 9cm pot option supplies three individual plants in 9cm pots; these aren't pre-potted into a mesh basket, so each one needs potting up before it's placed in the pond.

Specification

Detail

Sun/Shade

Full sun to part shade

Flowers

Jul to Sep

Colour

White

Growth rate

Slow

Evergreen

True

Care instructions

Evergreen.
