A stem plant with pink-tinted leaf undersides that gives planted aquariums a real colour break from the usual green, especially when several are grouped together. Good lighting helps deepen that colour toward red over time. It's supplied either as Potted, a pack of five pots, or as one larger, more established XL mother plant, so you can start small or begin propagating straight away.
Alternanthera reineckii 'Pink' is a stem plant valued for the pink underside of its leaves, which breaks up the green of other aquarium plants when several are grouped together. Grouped planting gives a tank real colour contrast, and strong lighting helps the leaves deepen toward red over time. It suits aquarists planting taller stems toward the rear of the tank who want more variation than solid green foliage.
You can buy it as Potted, supplied as a pack of five 5 cm pots ready for planting into the substrate, or as an XL mother plant, a larger, more developed specimen grown on in a bigger pot. The XL option gives you a head start if you want to begin propagating straight away rather than growing a young plant on first.
Propagation is straightforward: nip off the terminal bud and plant it directly into the substrate. Removing it also encourages the original plant to put out more side shoots, making for a bushier plant over time. Left to grow on, stems typically reach between 25 and 50cm tall.
