A hardy, broad-leafed plant from West Africa that suits shaded corners of a freshwater aquarium, as well as terrariums and paludariums. Growing it on a piece of hardscape rather than in the substrate helps keep the rhizome healthy, since burying it can cause it to rot. Supplied as a pack of five pots, ready to establish in your setup.
Anubias barteri var. barteri is a broad-leafed rhizome plant native to West Africa. It grows noticeably larger than the well-known Anubias barteri var. nana, though it is kept in exactly the same aquarium conditions.
It suits shaded spots in a freshwater aquarium, and also does well in terrariums and paludariums where it can be grown above water. Keeping it out of strong light helps limit algae forming on the leaf surface, and because the leaves are tough and robust, herbivorous fish tend to leave them alone.
Leaf shape and size vary considerably from plant to plant, with height typically ranging from 25 to 45 cm and a creeping rhizome reaching 10 to 15 cm or more as it establishes. That size range is one of the things that sets it apart from its smaller nana relative, even though care stays just as straightforward.
You receive a pack of five pots; the plants are ready to attach to hardscape rather than bury in substrate.
