A compact, slow-growing aquarium plant that keeps its leaves for several years and holds its own in shady corners where many other plants struggle. It helps fill low-light areas of a planted tank and stays intact even in tanks with grazing fish, since herbivorous species leave it alone. Available as a pack of five established pots or as a pack of three sealed 1-2-Grow! tissue-culture cups of young plantlets, so you can pick the starting point that suits your setup.
Anubias barteri var. nana is a hardy, broad-leaved aquarium plant originally from Cameroon that copes with shade better than most competing plants, making it a workable choice for darker spots in a tank that other greenery tends to avoid.
It grows slowly, and each leaf lasts for several years, so once it's established it keeps its shape and fullness without regular replanting.
Herbivorous fish leave it alone, which makes it a dependable choice for community tanks that also house grazing species.
It flowers underwater fairly often, giving it a point of interest beyond the foliage itself.
It's forgiving to keep, which suits someone setting up their first planted tank as well as more experienced keepers.
Two starting points are available: a pack of five established pots ready to fix onto hardscape, or 1-2-Grow! plantlets grown from tissue culture and supplied in a pack of three sealed cups for anyone who'd rather start smaller.
