Is Blyxa japonica linked to any well-known aquascaper?
Yes, it's associated with the work of the late Takashi Amano, who used it in his aquascapes during the 1990s.
The flowing, grass-like leaves of Blyxa japonica give a planted aquascape a visible sense of movement, standing out against stiffer, more robust plants nearby. It suits aquarists who already have some planted-tank experience, since it needs a touch more care than the easiest foreground species. It's supplied as a pack of three 1-2-Grow! cups, a single ready-to-plant option rather than a range of sizes.
Blyxa japonica is a fine, grass-like aquarium plant whose leaves sway freely in the tank's water flow, giving it a noticeably dynamic look next to sturdier foreground plants. It grows naturally in the nutrient-rich shallow pools, swamps and slow-flowing rivers of East and South East Asia. The species became well known in aquascaping through the work of the late Takashi Amano, who used it in his aquariums during the 1990s.
Because its structure is more delicate than many other foreground plants, it rewards keepers who already have some planted-tank experience and can handle it carefully during planting and maintenance. Positioned near the front of the layout, it adds texture and motion that contrasts with heavier, more rigid planting.
What you get: a pack of three cups of Blyxa japonica in the 1-2-Grow! format, which is currently the only format this plant is offered in.
