Frequently Asked Questions

Does this plant need repotting when it arrives?

No. The 3 litre pot already has its mesh basket in place, so you can place it straight onto the pond shelf without disturbing it.

How deep should I plant it?

Set it at a planting depth of 0 to 20 cm, resting on a shelf at the edge of the pond.

How much maintenance does it need?

Very little. Removing dead leaves and spent flowers now and then is enough to keep it tidy.

Will it flower in winter?

Established plants can produce a few flowers through milder winters, in addition to the main flowering period of April to July.

What if I order outside the usual flowering season?

The plant may still be available, but it could be supplied cut back at that time of year.

This plant gives pond margins a bolder, longer-lasting show of yellow flowers than the standard marsh marigold, blooming from spring into summer and sometimes again through a mild winter. It suits planting on the shelf around a natural or wildlife pond. You get a 3 litre plant already potted in its mesh basket, ready to lower straight onto the shelf without repotting.

Caltha palustris polypetala is a marginal pond plant and a bigger-flowered form of the common marsh marigold, grown for its large single yellow flowers and a flowering season that runs longer than ordinary Caltha palustris. It suits the margins of a wildlife or ornamental pond, where it helps bring colour to the planting and keeps flowering for longer than the standard variety once established. Mature plants occasionally carry a few flowers through a milder winter too.

It's supplied as a 3 litre potted plant in its mesh basket, which stays in place and goes straight onto the shelf of the pond at the depth you want; there's no repotting involved. Grown on, it reaches a decent height for a marginal and tolerates everything from full sun to part shade, so there's flexibility in where it's planted around the water. If you're buying out of season, the plant may be supplied cut back.

Ongoing care is minimal: tidy it up now and then by removing dead leaves and spent flowers, and otherwise let it get on with growing.
