Frequently Asked Questions
How deep should I plant the bulb?
How deep should I plant the bulb?
Leave the top two-thirds of the bulb above the substrate. Fully burying it tends to make it rot.
How much space does this plant need?
How much space does this plant need?
It grows long, trailing leaves and needs plenty of room, so it's better suited to larger aquariums than compact ones.
Does it always flower?
Does it always flower?
Only as it matures, and only sometimes, it can send a flower stem to the surface with an aromatic lily-type flower. It isn't guaranteed on every plant.
A tall-growing background plant for aquariums with room to spare, native to Thailand. It gives the back of the tank a flowing green presence and asks little in return beyond space, with mature plants sometimes rewarding you with an aromatic lily flower at the surface.
Crinum thaianum is a bulbous background plant from Thailand, belonging to the lily family, with trailing leaves that reach 60 to 200 cm in length. It suits larger aquariums with room to spare, and gives the back of the tank a tall, flowing green backdrop. The plant is undemanding once it has the space it needs.
What you get is the plant itself, supplied either as a standard potted plant or as an XL mother plant, a larger, more mature specimen grown in a 9 cm square pot.
Plant the bulb with the top two-thirds left exposed above the substrate, since burying it fully tends to cause it to rot.
As the plant matures, it can occasionally send a flower stem up to the water surface, carrying an aromatic, elegant lily-type flower, though this doesn't happen with every specimen.
