A background aquarium plant that adds height and movement to the rear of the tank without demanding special care. It suits tanks running harder tap water, since it comes from mineral-rich habitats in Southern Thailand. Choose a pack of five pots for straight-in planting or a pack of three 1-2-Grow! tissue-culture cups for a cleaner start.
Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae is a rosette-forming background plant whose leaves grow considerably longer than many other aquarium plants, often trailing across the water surface once established. It comes from limestone rivers in Southern Thailand, where the water runs very hard, so it suits tanks using harder tap water and helps keepers avoid extra water treatment just to grow it. The plant isn't fussy about care overall, though it does better with a nutritious substrate and decent light.
Like other Cryptocorynes, it needs a settling-in period before new growth gets going, so don't expect fast results straight after planting. Mature leaves run from 20 to 60cm long, with the rosette itself spreading 15 to 20cm wide, so it's worth planting toward the back of the tank where there's room for that growth. Leaf colour isn't fixed: individual plants come through either entirely green or maroon.
You receive Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae either as a pack of five established pots or as a pack of three 1-2-Grow! cups of tissue-cultured plantlets, depending on which option you choose.
