Frequently Asked Questions

How much light does Cryptocoryne parva need?

More than most other Cryptocoryne species. It almost loses its underwater leaf form without enough light, so keep it from being shaded by taller or bushier plants.

How fast does it grow and when will it form a full foreground carpet?

Growth is slow. Plant individual specimens a few centimetres apart and they typically merge into one low, cohesive group after around six months.

What's the difference between the Potted and 1-2-Grow! options?

Both give you the same plant in a different starting format: Potted is a pack of five pots and 1-2-Grow! is a pack of three cups. Details such as pot size or growing medium aren't specified for either option.

Can I use this as a centrepiece plant?

It's better suited to the foreground, given its small mature size of 3-6cm tall with a 5-8cm rosette, rather than as a tall centrepiece.

A compact foreground aquarium plant that stays small and keeps the same leaf shape and colour whatever the growing conditions, helping you build a tidy, predictable low planting at the front of the tank. It suits aquascapers who want a reliable, slow-growing carpet rather than a plant that changes appearance between setups. Supplied as a pack of five pots or a pack of three 1-2-Grow! cups.

Cryptocoryne parva, native to Sri Lanka, is the smallest species in the Cryptocoryne genus, growing to just 3-6cm tall with a rosette span of 5-8cm. Unlike many other Cryptocorynes, it keeps a steady leaf shape and colour whatever the growing conditions, which helps you maintain a consistent look at the front of the tank. It suits aquascapers planning a low, compact foreground layer rather than a taller or variable planting.

It needs more light than most other Cryptocoryne species, since it almost loses its leaf form underwater without enough of it. Keep it clear of taller or bushier neighbours that would cast shade over it, or the leaves won't develop properly.

Growth is naturally slow. Nutrition capsules placed in the bottom substrate layer can support faster development, though these aren't included with the plant. Plant individual specimens a few centimetres apart and, after around six months, they typically merge into one low, cohesive group.

You get the plant supplied either as a pack of five pots or as a pack of three 1-2-Grow! cups. The growing medium isn't specified for either option.
