Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Potted and 1-2-Grow! options?

Potted is supplied as a pack of five pots of already-grown plants ready to go into the tank. 1-2-Grow! is a pack of three closed cups of tissue-cultured plant material, as described for that format.

Will the leaves always stay deep red?

The manufacturer states that strong lighting and a good nutrient supply are needed for the leaves to reach their full reddish-brown to beetroot colour; without that, the colouring will be less pronounced.

Is this plant suitable for a nano aquarium?

Yes. It's described as one of the smallest red Echinodorus cultivars, at 15 to 40 cm tall with a 15 to 25 cm wide rosette, which makes it workable in small and nano tanks.

Is it difficult to keep?

It's rated Easy for care difficulty in the specifications, making it a suitable choice for keepers newer to planted tanks.

Echinodorus 'Reni' is a small-growing red Echinodorus suited to nano and small aquarium setups where a taller red sword wouldn't fit. Its manageable care needs help newer fishkeepers add midground colour without extra fuss. You can buy it as a pack of five established pots or as 1-2-Grow! tissue-cultured stock supplied in a pack of three sealed cups, giving you a choice of starting point for how you establish it in your tank.

Echinodorus 'Reni' is a cultivated dwarf form of red Echinodorus, bred to stay smaller than other plants in that group, which is what makes it workable in nano and small aquariums.

New leaves open reddish-brown and darken toward a deep beetroot shade as they mature, adding strong colour to the midground of a planted layout. At 15 to 40 cm tall with a rosette spanning 15 to 25 cm, it stays compact enough for smaller aquascapes while still forming a noticeable clump.

Placed in the midground, it gives small and nano aquariums a source of red-brown colour without taking over the space. It's a manageable plant for keepers newer to planted tanks, though the manufacturer states that strong lighting and a good nutrient supply are needed for the leaves to reach their full colour; with less of either, expect a less vivid result.

You can buy 'Reni' as a pack of five ready-to-plant pots, or as 1-2-Grow! stock grown from tissue culture and supplied in a pack of three closed cups for keepers who'd rather establish it themselves. What sets this cultivar apart from other red Echinodorus is its size: it's described as one of the smallest in the group, which is why it suits tanks too small for a standard red sword.
