Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to take the plant out of its basket before planting?

No. Both the 1 litre and 3 litre sizes don't require repotting and the mesh basket can stay in place when you plant them.

How deep should I plant it?

The recommended planting depth is 0-10cm. Start it shallower within that range and lower it gradually as it establishes, rather than placing it straight at its final depth.

Will it need a bigger basket as it grows?

Not straight away, but if it grows towards the taller end of its 60-120cm height range, moving it into a bigger basket or planting it in gravel helps stop it falling over in windy weather.

Is it a native plant?

Yes, Eupatorium cannabinum is classed as a native plant.

What's the difference between the 1 litre and 3 litre sizes?

Both arrive already potted in a mesh aquatic basket; the 3 litre is the larger starting size, while the 1 litre is the more compact option.

Suited to pond margins that need a tall native plant for structure, this marginal gives pond edges colour and texture from midsummer into early autumn, and needs little looking after once it's settled in.

Eupatorium cannabinum is a native marginal pond plant with domed clusters of fine, dusty pink flower heads that open in the latter half of summer. It gives pond margins extended colour running into early autumn, once it has had a chance to establish in the right spot.

Suited to pond margins with space for a tall native plant, it's supplied as a single potted specimen already growing in a mesh aquatic basket, ready to go straight into the pond without needing to be removed from its basket or repotted first.

What sets it apart is the flower head itself: a rounded, domed cluster made up of many tiny, softly textured pink florets, together with its native status.
