An integrated air pump and timer clean the filter media automatically every few days, so you get clear pond water without pulling the unit apart to hose down mechanical waste yourself. The static K1 Micro bed inside handles mechanical and biological filtration together, which reduces the amount of separate kit you need to run a healthy smaller pond. You'll need your own circulating pump to feed water into it, since this is a pump-fed unit and the pump isn't included. It comes in green or grey, and colour is the only difference between the two.
Overview
The EazyPod Automatic is a pond filter that cleans its own filter media, using a built-in air pump and timer instead of asking you to strip it down and hose the media off by hand. Water reaching the unit passes through an outer chamber first, where a perforated stainless steel screen lets the heavier solids drop out under gravity before it ever reaches the filter media itself. From there it moves into the inner chamber, where a static bed of K1 Micro media traps the finer particles and gives beneficial bacteria plenty of surface area to establish themselves. Running mechanical and biological filtration through one unit keeps maintenance down on a smaller ornamental pond.
How the self-cleaning cycle works
By default, every three days an air pump housed in the control box forces air up through a ring at the base of the inner chamber, agitating the K1 Micro so trapped waste breaks free from the media. A one-inch motorised valve then opens automatically to dump that waste water out of the system, and the whole cycle takes around six and a half minutes from start to finish. That three-day interval is only a factory default, so you can adjust it if your pond carries a heavier fish load or simply needs cleaning more or less often.
What's included, and what you'll need to add
The unit comes with its control box, the integrated aeration pump, the one-inch motorised waste valve and the K1 Micro media already fitted inside the inner media chamber. What it doesn't come with is a circulating pump: this is a pump-fed filter, so you supply water to it using your own pump, and the filter then returns clean water to the pond by gravity, down a waterfall or through a wide-bore pipe, for example. If you don't already have a pump suited to the job, factor that into your budget alongside the filter itself.
Is this the right filter for your pond
This is built for the smaller end of ornamental ponds rather than large koi systems, and its maximum rated pond size is given in the specification table above. Because the K1 Micro stays static rather than tumbling, it has enough surface area on its own to run as a complete filter within that range, without needing a separate biological filter alongside it. If your pond is bigger than that, or your setup only feeds water to the filter by gravity rather than a pump, this isn't the right match.
