A pond marginal plant suited to the shallow, damp edges of a pond, flowering from late spring well into the warmer months. It helps add low-maintenance height and seasonal colour to the margin without needing constant attention. Choose a single plant already established in its basket, or a pack of three younger plants for filling a wider stretch of margin.
Gratiola officinalis is a flowering marginal plant that isn't fussy about light, settling into pond-edge positions that get plenty of sun as readily as spots with some shade through the day, which gives it more placement options than many marginals that need one or the other.
In its native habitat it grows in damp, low-lying ground, the same shallow, moist conditions a planted pond margin provides. Flower spires open from the leaf axils and carry colour through spring and into the warmer months of the growing season.
Once it's settled in, upkeep is minimal: an occasional trim keeps the clump looking neat, and a cut-back once the foliage has died down at the end of the season is normally all it needs.
What you get depends on which option you choose. Buy it as a single plant and it arrives already potted into its own basket, ready to go straight in. Buy it as the pack of three and you get individual young plants, each in its own small pot, better suited to establishing across a wider area of margin.
