Frequently Asked Questions

How easy is this plant to keep?

It's rated easy to grow, making it a suitable choice even if you're new to planted aquariums.

Where should I position it in my aquascape?

It's suited to the midground, planted between shorter foreground species and taller background plants.

Will the leaf colour change after I plant it?

Yes. It arrives with dark brownish-green leaves, which typically turn pale green with a silvery-white underside once it settles into your tank.

Why do some of the older leaves die back?

Under dimmer light, the oldest leaves die away over time, but new side shoots regularly form to replace them, so this is normal rather than a problem.

What exactly do I receive when I order?

A pack of five pots, ready to plant directly into your substrate.

A dwarf stem plant that keeps its leaves tight to the stalk rather than sprawling, giving you a dense, bushy clump instead of a few straggly stems. It suits planted tanks where you want structure in the middle of the layout, and it doesn't need specialist care, so it works for newer aquarium keepers as well as more experienced ones.

Hygrophila corymbosa 'Compact' is a dwarf form of the species, bred so its leaves sit close together along the stem instead of spreading out. That tighter habit gives you a denser, bushier plant than the standard Hygrophila corymbosa, helped along by the numerous side shoots it produces as it grows.

It works well in the middle of a planted layout, filling the space between shorter foreground plants and taller background ones. It doesn't need specialist care to establish, so it suits newer planted-tank keepers as well as those with more experience.

Expect its leaf colour to change after planting. The leaves arrive dark brownish-green from the nursery, then shift to pale green with a silvery-white underside once the plant adjusts to your tank's conditions.

Lighting also plays a part in how it looks over time. Strong light can bring out a reddish-brown tint in the newest leaves, while under dimmer light the oldest leaves die back eventually, with new side shoots regularly forming to take their place.

You receive a pack of five pots, ready to plant directly into your substrate.
