Juncus maritimus is a native marginal plant that tolerates sea spray and slightly brackish water, giving pond keepers in coastal or estuary settings a planting option where many marginals struggle to establish. It's a slow grower supplied in 9cm pots, so it holds its place in the scheme with minimal upkeep.
Juncus maritimus is a native pond marginal with fine, arching stems that tolerate sea spray and slightly brackish water, a trait that sets it apart from many marginals which won't take salt-laden conditions at all. It suits coastal gardens, estuary-side ponds, or any site where salty air or spray reaches the water's edge.
Each pack gives you three plants, individually supplied in 9cm pots. A mesh planting basket is needed to pot them up for the pond, but one isn't included in the pack, so factor that into your order if you don't already have suitable baskets.
Growth is slow, which means the plant stays in its place rather than spreading across the margin, and needs less regular dividing than faster-growing species. It tolerates full sun through to partial shade, so there's some flexibility in where around the pond you position it.
