A compact red stem plant supplied potted and ready to plant, suited to growers working on the middle of a freshwater layout who want colour without needing a lot of fuss. It gives the aquarium a dense red accent, turning red more readily and staying smaller than the related Ludwigia repens 'Rubin', and colours more intensely when given good light and added CO2.
Ludwigia palustris 'Super Red' is a stem plant that turns red more easily and stays more compact than the related Ludwigia repens 'Rubin'. It works well through the middle of a layout, giving a dense red accent that suits growers who haven't kept demanding stem plants before.
The plant adds presence to that red accent over time: it branches on its own, and trimming increases the number of side shoots, making the clump denser still. You receive a pack of five pots, so you can lift the plants out and separate the stalks before planting them into the substrate.
Each stalk typically reaches 2-4cm wide and 10-30cm tall, which keeps the clump a suitable height for planting through the centre of the tank rather than right at the front or back glass. Cut-off shoots root again quickly once replanted, so trimmings from an established clump can be used to fill in more of the layout.
Good light and added CO2 bring out a more intense red and support stronger growth, according to the grower's guidance. It's found naturally across a wide range of regions, rather than being native to just one area.
