This compact form of Lythrum salicaria suits planting at the pond margin, where a shorter, tidier plant works better than the full-size species. It offers colour through the main flowering season and needs very little looking after once settled in, just an occasional tidy-up. You get either a single plant in its own aquatic basket, or a pack of three young pot-grown plants, depending on the size you choose.
Lythrum salicaria 'Robert' is a compact form of the species, grown as a marginal plant for the pond edge. It provides colour through the main flowering season and settles in well with only occasional attention.
Keeping it tidy only takes an occasional trim through the growing season. Leave the foliage alone over winter so it can die back naturally, since this helps the plant form next year's flower buds.
You get either a single plant already growing in a 1 litre mesh aquatic basket, ready to place into the pond, or a pack of three young plants, each supplied in a 9cm pot. The 9cm pot plants need potting into a mesh basket before they go into the water, while the 1 litre basket plant doesn't need this step, though it will do better in a slightly larger basket if you have one.
Plants that grow tall and top-heavy benefit from a larger mesh basket, or planting directly into gravel, to stop them toppling over in exposed, breezy spots. Outside the main growing season, stock may still be available but could be supplied cut back rather than in full leaf.
