This marginal plant fills the pond edge with a spearmint scent and brings flowering interest from midsummer into early autumn. It suits planting spots from open sun through to light shade. Buy it as a single plant ready-potted in a 1 litre mesh basket, or as three young plants in 9cm pots to pot up yourself.
Mentha cervina is a marginal pond plant grown chiefly for its aromatic, spearmint-scented foliage. Flower spikes appear through the warmer months, adding colour at the pond's edge into early autumn. It suits planting positions from open sun through to a partly shaded spot, giving pond keepers some flexibility in where it goes.
The plant is available in two formats. Choose the 1 litre option for a single plant already potted into a 1 litre mesh aquatic basket, ready to go straight into the pond. Choose the 9cm pot pack of three if you want multiple plants, supplied individually in their 9cm pots rather than pre-basketed.
Because the 9cm pot plants aren't supplied in a mesh basket, you'll need to pot each one yourself before placing it in the water. What sets this plant apart from many other marginals is its scent: the foliage carries a spearmint smell, and it can be trimmed back at any point while it's actively growing to keep it neat.
