This Java fern cultivar arrives already grown onto a piece of mangrove wood, which allows you to place it straight into the aquarium without tying or gluing it down yourself. It suits aquarists at any experience level, including those setting up a planted tank for the first time, thanks to its easy-going nature. The narrower leaves give your layout a different texture from the standard Microsorum pteropus, growing at a less acute angle from the stem.
Microsorum pteropus 'Narrow' is a Java fern variety supplied already attached to a piece of mangrove wood, with leaves noticeably narrower than the standard Microsorum pteropus. This narrow-leaved form also holds its leaves at a less acute angle from the stem, giving it a slightly different silhouette once it is in the tank.
What you get is the wood itself with the plant already grown onto it: the rhizome is secured in place, so there is nothing further to tie, glue, or plant into substrate before adding it to your aquascape.
Microsorum pteropus is known to be a highly variable species, and breeders have produced several distinct forms from it over time. This narrow-leaved cultivar is one result of that variability, and its care needs remain straightforward, which keeps it manageable even for keepers without much planted-tank experience.
Leaves typically reach 10-20cm long and the rhizome extends 10-15cm or more, so it is worth allowing some room around the wood for the plant to spread as it establishes.
