This native water lily gives ponds genuine white summer colour above green foliage, and suits pond keepers who want a plant that settles well in still water and can adapt to deeper planting as it establishes. You get one plant supplied in a mesh aquatic basket, ready to lower into position.
Nymphaea Alba is the only water lily native to Britain, known for white flowers and green foliage rather than a prolific bloom. It gives pond owners a genuinely native planting option, and suits anyone happy with a more modest flowering habit in return for that naturalistic character.
It grows best at around a metre deep, though established plants can be grown down to three metres if lowered very gradually to let them acclimatise. Growth slows noticeably at these greater depths, so patience is needed if you're planting in a deeper pond.
Each plant is supplied in a mesh aquatic basket, which can go straight into the pond without needing to be removed. Keep it in still water away from fountains or splashes, lower it in gradually so the leaves can reach the surface within a few days, and clear away dead leaves and flowers as the season progresses.
