A floating stem plant that spreads naturally across the water's surface, giving fish and fry shaded, sheltered cover while asking very little of the keeper. Its easy-going nature makes it a sound choice if you're new to growing aquatic plants.

Phyllanthus fluitans is a floating aquarium plant from the Phyllanthaceae family, closely related to Salvinia but set apart by a single leaf growing from each node rather than a paired leaf arrangement. It suits planted tanks where quick surface cover is wanted without added complexity, and its straightforward care needs make it a sensible pick for anyone new to growing aquatic plants. The dense carpet of heart-shaped leaves helps shade the water beneath it, giving fish and fry a sheltered spot near the surface.

The leaves are water-repellent and heart-shaped, hiding the stem beneath them as the plant spreads. Under more intense lighting, expect the leaves to deepen from green toward brown; under softer light, they tend to stay greener. The plant can occasionally produce small white, six-petalled flowers.

Native to South America, it's grown using sustainable cultivation methods in Denmark.

You receive a pack of three cups of Phyllanthus fluitans supplied in the 1-2-Grow! format, which is currently the only format offered for this species.
