Frequently Asked Questions

How deep should I plant it?

The general planting depth is 0-10 cm, but new plants should start shallower than their final depth while they establish: no more than a third of the maximum recommended depth for the 9cm pot plants, or half for the 1 litre plants. The 3 litre plants can go straight to their intended depth on the pond shelf.

Does it need regular feeding or pruning?

Little maintenance is needed. The main task is trimming it back after flowering, which encourages a second flush of blooms.

Is a basket included with the pack of three?

No. The pack of three comes as individual plants in 9cm pots, so you'll need to pot each one into a mesh aquatic basket before placing it in the pond. The 1 litre and 3 litre single plants already come in a mesh basket.

Where will it grow best?

It copes with full sun through to part shade, so there's some flexibility in where along the margin you position it.

A hardy marginal plant for pond edges, giving a steady run of small yellow buttercup flowers across much of the summer. It establishes with little fuss and only needs a trim once flowering is over to encourage a second flush. Supplied as a single basket-grown plant in two sizes, or as a pack of three young plants for filling out a longer stretch of margin.

Ranunculus flammula is a UK native marginal pond plant, grown for its branching stems of small yellow, buttercup-type flowers held above lance-shaped leaves. Planting it along the margin helps bring colour to the pond edge for a good part of the growing season. Because it's a native species, it suits planting schemes built around UK pond-edge planting rather than imported ornamentals.

You'll receive one plant in either a 1 litre or 3 litre mesh aquatic basket, ready to go straight onto the marginal shelf, or three individual plants each in their own 9cm pot if you choose the pack of three. The 9cm pot plants aren't supplied in a mesh basket, so you'll need to pot them into one before placing them in the water.

Once it's settled in, it asks for very little looking after. Trim it back after flowering to bring on a second flush of blooms, and keep new plants sitting a little shallower than their final position while they root in, before lowering them to the depth you want them to grow at long term.
