Frequently Asked Questions

What width does this liner come in?

SealEco supplies GreenSeal EPDM in 1.7m wide rolls. Any finished width you order above that will include a factory join, which SealEco says doesn't affect the liner's quality or its guarantee. Exact width and length options for this listing are shown in the size selector above.

Do I need an underlay with this liner?

It isn't compulsory, but even though this EPDM liner has good puncture resistance, we'd recommend laying a protective underlay such as AquaSHIELD beneath it to guard against stones and roots in the sub-base.

Is this liner safe for fish and pond plants?

Yes. SealEco lists this GreenSeal EPDM liner as safe for aquatic life and plants once correctly installed.

Can I join two sheets together myself?

Yes, on-site joining is possible. Because SealEco and Elevate are both EPDM rubber materials, sections can be joined using Elevate QuickSeam Tape and QuickSeam FormFlash for more complex layouts.

What if I need a size bigger than what's listed here?

Contact AquaticsHub. SealEco can supply single sheets up to substantially larger sizes than the standard options carried on this listing, or multiple sheets for joining on-site, so we can arrange a quote for bespoke requirements.

How long should this liner last?

SealEco's own literature states a service life of over 40 years for this material.

At 0.75mm thick, GreenSeal EPDM from SealEco offers a flexible rubber liner for anyone building a garden pond, ornamental pool or box-welded feature that needs to move with the ground beneath it. It carries good puncture resistance, resists UV exposure and microbial attack, and is safe for fish and pond plants once correctly installed. Sold by width and length, with optional AquaSHIELD protective matting.

Key benefits

  • Highly flexible rubber that shapes around shelves, waterfalls and awkward profiles with fewer creases than stiffer liners
  • Good puncture resistance, backed by 300% elongation so the sheet can move with the ground beneath it
  • Resistant to UV exposure, constant water contact and microbial attack, and stated by SealEco to withstand a temperature range of -40 to +150 (units not confirmed in the source data) without cracking or splitting
  • Safe for fish, other aquatic life and pond plants once correctly installed
  • Can be joined on-site for larger or more complex designs, and fabricated into box-welded liners for formal ponds
  • Manufactured in Sweden to ISO14000 and ISO9001 standards

Material and construction

This liner is EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber, 0.75mm thick, weighing 1.00kg per square metre, in a pure black finish with a slightly embossed surface. SealEco quotes an elongation of around 300%, which is what allows the sheet to stretch and settle against an uneven excavation rather than sitting under tension.

Protective matting (optional)

This listing also gives you the option to add AquaSHIELD protective matting, supplied in 200gsm and 275gsm weights, to lay beneath the liner. Even with good puncture resistance, an underlay helps guard against sharp stones and roots in the sub-base.
