This branching moss suits aquarists building a foreground carpet or a bushier covering for hardscape at the front of the tank. It helps fill in tanks with low light, where many other plants would struggle, and establishes quickly once attached or planted. Choose a pack of three sealed cups of tissue-cultured plantlets, or a single established portion of moss, depending on how you'd rather start planting.
Taxiphyllum sp. 'Spiky Moss' is a fast-growing Asian moss closely related to Christmas moss, but it grows larger and produces many more deep green, branched shoots for a noticeably bushier texture. It suits aquarists wanting a foreground carpet or a moss-covered hardscape feature, and it helps fill in low-light tanks where many other plants would struggle.
It's available as 1-2-Grow! tissue-cultured plantlets supplied in a pack of three sealed cups, or as a single established portion of moss. The cup format gives you clean, contained starting batches of small plantlets; the portion format arrives as already-established moss, without the cup packaging.
Spiky Moss grows between 2 and 10 cm tall and thrives even at low light intensity, so it doesn't need strong lighting to establish. It does best attached to vertical surfaces such as wood or rock, where the branched shoots show up to best effect. For a carpeting effect instead, plant small tufts into the substrate with a small gap between each one and let it spread.
